Ortiz wins opening match

St. Patrick's Alex Ortiz defeated Lincoln Way Central's Kevin Ryan by a 5-3 decision in the opening round of the IHSA State Finals. The 160-pound junior will now face Buffalo Grove's Kyle Czarnecki in a quarterfinal bout later this morning.

Senior Joe Rau fell to Collinsville's Ryan Robinson in his state tournament debut. Robinson was the runner-up at 189 last year.
